Improving the computation of censored quantile regressions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Censored quantile regressions (CQR) are a valuable tool in economics and engineering. The computation of estimators is highly complex and the performance of standard methods is not satisfactory, in particular if a high degree of censoring is present. Due to an interpolation property the computation of CQR estimates corresponds to the solution of a large scale discrete optimization problem. This feature motivates the use of the global optimization heuristic threshold accepting in comparison to other algorithms. Simulation results presented in this paper indicate that it can improve finding the exact CQR estimator considerably though it uses more computing time.

متن کاملUniform Bahadur Representation for Nonparametric Censored Quantile Regression: A Redistribution-of-Mass Approach
Censored quantile regressions have received a great deal of attention in the literature. In a linear setup, recent research has found that an estimator based on the idea of “redistribution-of-mass” (Efron, 1967) has better numerical performance than other available methods. In this paper, this idea is combined with the local polynomial kernel smoothing for nonparametric quantile regression of c...
متن کاملCensored depth quantiles
Quantile regression is a wide spread regression technique which allows to model the entire conditional distribution of the response variable. A natural extension to the case of censored observations was introduced by Portnoy (2003) using a reweighting scheme based on the Kaplan-Meier estimator. We apply the same ideas on the depth quantiles defined in Rousseeuw and Hubert (1999). This leads to ...
متن کاملQuantile Calculus and Censored Regression.
Quantile regression has been advocated in survival analysis to assess evolving covariate effects. However, challenges arise when the censoring time is not always observed and may be covariate-dependent, particularly in the presence of continuously-distributed covariates. In spite of several recent advances, existing methods either involve algorithmic complications or impose a probability grid. ...
متن کاملQuantile Regression with Censoring and Endogeneity
In this paper, we develop a new censored quantile instrumental variable (CQIV) estimator and describe its properties and computation. The CQIV estimator combines Powell (1986) censored quantile regression (CQR) to deal semiparametrically with censoring, with a control variable approach to incorporate endogenous regressors. The CQIV estimator is obtained in two stages that are nonadditive in the...
